Kids' Inquiry of Diverse Species

otters

Lutrinae

There are 13 species of otters found throughout the world. Otters are semi-aquatic mammals that are specialized for chasing and capturing fish and other aquatic prey underwater. Otters are social and are often found in family groups. Most species are found in freshwater rivers and lakes, but they can also be found in coastal and estuarine areas, and sea otters are found only along the Pacific coast of North America.
