Kids' Inquiry of Diverse Species

Local animals in this group:

chickadees

Paridae

There are 54 species of chickadees distributed across North America, Europe, and Asia. These tiny birds have small, slender bills with bristles over the nostrils. Unlike many other small perching birds, chickadees do not have streaked brown plumage. They often have bold patterns of black and white on their heads, as in Black-capped Chickadees, for example.
